Muga silk is a wild silk where the butterfly is allowed to hatch before it is processed. It shimmers gold-brown, comes from Assam India and belongs to the warm silk types.

The butterflies that produce Muga and Tussah silk come from the same butterfly family. Muga silk originates from India, where the silk was reserved for the royal court in Assam for hundreds of years.
